Louisville coach Bobby Petrino said this week he thinks his quarterback will someday play on Sundays.
No, he wasn't talking about Brian Brohm, who injured his right hand in Saturday's 31-7 rout of Miami. Petrino was talking about backup Hunter Cantwell, who will be under center for at least the next month.
``He can really throw the football,'' Petrino said. ``He's very accurate, can make all the different throws, has a quick release.''
Petrino believes his team can keep winning, despite the loss Brohm and its other preseason Heisman hopeful, Michael Bush. The running back is out for the season after breaking his leg in Louisville's opener against Kentucky.
``We need to just keep going,'' Petrino said. ``I think the depth that we've been working at and the recruiting and you know, the ability to play a lot of players in games last year and in the first two games this year helped us a lot. We've got guys that are very confident.''
Cantwell filled in last season after Brohm suffered a knee injury and gained the team's respect with a gritty performance in the Gator Bowl, playing a good part of the game with a broken nose.

ROUGH ROAD: The road doesn't get any easier for Cincinnati. After losing at top-ranked Ohio State 37-7 last week, the Bearcats head to Blacksburg, Va. this week to play No. 11 Virginia Tech.
The team's schedule also includes conference road games at No. 8 Louisville and No. 4 West Virginia.
They host two other undefeated teams - South Florida and Rutgers.
Bearcats coach Mark Dantonio has no complaints about the rough schedule.
``We embrace the schedule,'' he said. ``We need to have a measuring stick here. I think that's important to recognize that we need to measure where we are at against the best teams in America.''
---
WHAT STREAK? Syracuse coach Greg Robinson says he didn't keep track of his team's losing streak before last week's game with Illinois.
``I do know that we were wanting to win in the worst way, and that's really where my mindset is,'' he said. ``It might sound like coach's talk to you but it really is true, I don't know really how many it was in a row. If you told me right now I'd say, 'I know it's up there.' But I know it was good to get a win.''
The Orange broke an 11-game losing streak with their 31-21 win.

TAKING OVER: South Florida redshirt freshman Matt Grothe stepped in when Bulls quarterback Pat Julmiste sustained a thigh bruise in the team's opener against McNeese State.
Julmiste is healthy again, but he's not getting his starting job back.
Grothe has USF off to a 3-0 start, and was chosen the conference's offensive player of the week for his three-touchdown, 302-yard passing performance in a 24-17 win over against Central Florida. He also ran for a team-high 73 yards.
Coach Jim Leavitt says Julmiste isn't happy about not playing, but understands the situation.
``We're going with Matt because he's obviously doing some good things,'' he said.
The quarterbacks battled for the starting job during the preseason, and Leavitt said he had always intended to play both this season.

AWARDS: Louisville senior free safety Brandon Sharp and West Virginia junior wide receiver Darius Reynaud were chosen the Big East's defensive and special teams players of the week.
Sharp had eight tackles and a sack in Louisville's 31-7 win over Miami.
Reynaud returned a kickoff 96 yards for his first career touchdown in West Virginias 45-24 victory over Maryland. Reynaud also caught four passes for 28 yards and a touchdown.
