03/01/2007 - Oklahoma City, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Chris Paul posted 24 points and 13 rebounds, as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets got their sixth straight win at home with a 107-100 win over the Atlanta Hawks at the Ford Center.
Devin Brown scored 19 points for the Hornets, who have won three of their last four. Tyson Chandler notched 18 points and 13 boards, David West had 17 points and 14 boards, and Desmond Mason added 16 points.
The Hornets have won 12 of their last 13 at home and are 19-11 on the season as the host. The Hornets will play in Chicago on Friday.
Joe Johnson posted 27 points and eight assists for the Hawks, who lost for the fifth time in six games. Josh Smith notched 17 points, nine assists and nine rebounds, while Anthony Johnson netted 13 points. Marvin Williams added 12 points and eight boards.
The tilt was the second of a quick three-game road trip for Atlanta that concludes in Washington on Friday. The Hawks are just 12-19 as the visiting team this season.
With Atlanta trailing 100-92 in the final minute, Smith drilled a three- pointer with 33.3 seconds left to make it a two-possession game. West then converted a pair of free throws one second later, but Johnson responded on a layup with 27.7 seconds remaining
Brown hit a free throw at 26.4 seconds, but Salim Stoudamire's trey with 19.1 seconds to go kept Atlanta alive with a 103-100 deficit.
However, Paul hit a pair of free throws with 14.1 seconds left and Smith came up short on a three-point attempt. Mason then converted a pair of free throws with 4.9 seconds on the clock to seal the win.
The lead went back and forth several times through the first quarter, and Atlanta edged a 30-27 advantage heading into the second.
After Zaza Pachulia's layup 23 seconds into the second, the Hornets went on a 10-2 run capped by a West jumper with 8:44 remaining for a 37-34 lead. They retained control down the stretch for a 59-50 halftime advantage.
The Hawks regrouped and came out of the locker room on an 8-1 spurt sparked by a Johnson free throw 12 seconds into the second half, and trailed just 77-76 heading into the fourth.
The Hornets reclaimed control by starting the final stanza on a 13-4 burst finished by a Chandler alley oop dunk with 5:17 left for a 90-80 lead heading down the stretch.
Game Notes

Big 12 Conference betting odds
Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State
Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.
Work left to do:
Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.
Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.
Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.
Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
